Bolivia’s Evo Honors Massacred Farmers

Pando, Bolivia, Sep 11 (Prensa Latina) Bolivian President Evo Morales will attend, Friday, the acts paying tribute to the farmers massacred last year in Pando department.

Local authorities informed that national leaders of social and trade union organizations will also take part, along with representatives from Brazilian groups of workers and farmers.

The Farmers’ Federation in Pando summoned a mass mobilization today to honor those killed last year, with similar associations from other regions attending as well.

As part of the homage, a statue will be unveiled in the place where one of the deadliest events in the Bolivian history occurred, whose responsibility falls on supporters of former mayor Leopoldo Fernandez, including officials of the prefecture and the Road Service.

That massacre is also part of the violent events on September 9 and 10, 2008, aimed at carrying out a subversive plan from the prefectures of the capitals of Santa Cruz, Chuquisaca, Tarija, Beni, and Pando.
