Evo Calls for Judicial Power Change

La Paz, Oct 14 (Prensa Latina) Bolivian President Evo Morales has called upon lawyers to make a radical change in the Judicial Power.

Evo made the proposal during a meeting with a group of “lawyers for change” in La Paz, where they expressed support for the Morales-Alvaro Garcia presidential ticket, ahead of the December general elections, Cambio daily reported on Wednesday.

Morales told jurists the application of the new Political Constitution of the State is in their hands, and for that, they must guarantee a radical transformation in the Judicial Power.

It is not possible, he added, that judges and attorneys run the legal system for ever, to the detriment of Bolivians.

The president lamented that justice was colonized by political interests for decades, rather than protecting the people and the State.

He also denounced that the figure of the lawyer has bad reputation among the people due to wrongdoings by some of them.

“My greatest desire is that Bolivians are proud of their lawyers, and feel protected,” Evo stressed.
