Bolivia Gets Fund to Fight AIDS

La Paz, Oct 15 (Prensa Latina) The Global Fund to Fight AIDS approved a $26.2 million fund for Bolivia, to deal with AIDS prevention and free care for the 4,343 seropositive patients registered in the country.

Cambio daily quoted on Thursday Health Minister Ramiro Tapia as explaining that $5.3 million would be used annually to fight the disease.

The international organization, headquartered in Geneva, decided to grant the financial aid to the Bolivian proposal entitled “Country for the prevention and treatment of HIV-AIDS in vulnerable groups.”

Tapia noted that the number of HIV-AIDS carriers has increased in the last years, but it must be taken into consideration that at least 90 percent of the existing cases are reported.
