Bolivia ready to discuss Peru’s proposal against arms buildup in South America

LIMA, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) — Bolivia was willing to discuss Peru’s proposal to stop arms buildup in South America, a Bolivian official said Tuesday.

“Bolivia’s doors are open to analyze this proposal … in the frame of peace, brotherhood and development of the peoples,” Bolivia’s ambassador to Peru Franz Solano told the press.

Bolivia would always support initiatives to reduce excessive arms expenses and boost the fight against poverty, Solano declared.

However, the Bolivian government had not received any official requirement from the Peruvian side to hold a meeting between Bolivian President Evo Morales and a coming Peruvian delegation to discuss the issue, Solano added.

Peru is currently promoting a campaign against arms buildup in the region.
