Bolivia Opening of 16th Bolivarian Sports Games

Sucre, Bolivia, Nov 14 (Prensa Latina) The city of Sucre, Bolivia”s constitutional capital, will open today the 16th Bolivarian Sports Games, gathering athletes from six countries.

The opening ceremony will take place at Patria stadium and Bolivian President Evo Morales is expected to be present. Delegations of Panama, Peru, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador and Bolivia will take part in this activity too.

Colombia is the favorite to win the Games this year, because that country won 45 medals in weight lifting, in a competition already held two weeks ago.

Bolivian government approved a budget of 70 million dollars for the improvement and construction of new sports facilities.

On the other hand, the expansion of Patria stadium, in charge of the prefecture of Chuquisaca, is not finished yet, although track and field competitions will take place next November 22, so it is possible to be ready by then.

Other venues are Cochabamba, Santa Cruz and Tarija. Some competitions will take place in the Ecuadorian cities of Quito, Salinas and Guayaquil and the Peruvian city of La Punta.

The Venezuelan delegation is the largest, comprising 800 athletes, followed by Colombia with 300, Peru with 277 and Panama with 94.

The Bolivarian Games are a regional multi-sport event held in honor of Simon Bolivar organized by the Bolivarian Sports Organization (ODEBO) every four years. The event is open to the countries liberated by Bolivar or those born from these.
