Thousand Bolivian Families Affected by Climate

La Paz, Nov 18 (Prensa Latina) The Bolivian government stated that at least 10,000 families have been affected throughout the country due to drought, rain, hailstorm and frosts caused by El Niño weather phenomenon.

  According to Deputy Social Defense Minister Hernan Tuco, about 8,500 families have been so far damaged due to drought in 15 municipalities of Chuquisaca, Santa Cruz and Tarija.

Another 1,500 families have been also affected by hailstone in Riberalta (Beni) and rains in departments of Santa Cruz, Pando, Beni, Cochabamba and northern La Paz.

Tuco stated that there are some reports of frosts in communities of Oruro and La Paz.

“The government will assist those people, through the National Council for Risks Reduction, Attention to Disaster and Emergency (Conarade),” he noted.

The United Nations and other international organizations are also cooperating with Bolivia to assist those families damaged by natural disasters.
