Public Safety: Goal of Bolivian Government

Cochabamba, Nov 20 (Prensa Latina) The third National Meeting on Public Security concludes on Friday after two days of debate and the adoption of some measures.

  Governmental authorities, representatives of the legislative and judicial bodies and of the Public Ministry, the Comptroller General of the State, the Bolivian Police and social movements and organizations attended the meeting.

Those present at the meeting seek to coordinate plans, programs, projects and actions related to security in the national, departmental and local areas and formulate the public policy regarding prevention, control and rehabilitation under a transparent legal and financial framework.

The Ministry of Government announced the installation of the National Observatory of Citizen Security that would be in charge of collecting statistics of crimes, violence, drug and alcohol consumption and traffic accidents.

According to Deputy of Citizen Security General Miguel Vasquez, that entity would count on resources of $570 from the Inter-American Development Bank (BID).

Those in the meeting also carried out a diagnosis on the lack of safety situation in the country and the investment and limitation of the Direct Tax on Hydrocarbons that is managed by prefectures and
