Bolivian president swears in military, police chiefs

Bolivian President Evo Morales Sunday swore in military and police chiefs for the 2010-2015 term.

At a ceremony held at the government palace, Gen. Carlos Ramiro de la Fuente Bloch was sworn in as commander of the Bolivian Armed Forces, and Oscar Hugo Nina Fernandez as the country’s police chief.

The Armed Forces and the national police must stand together with the Bolivian people to support Bolivia’s transformation, Morales said.

Meanwhile, Armando Pacheco Gutierrez was given the position of chief of staff of the Armed Forces, and Antonio Cueto Calderon was made commander of the Army, General Tito Roger commander of the Air Forces, and Hugo Contreras Llanos commander of the Navy.

President Morales urged the Bolivian Armed Forces and police to make their actions transparent to improve their image and work for the people.

Morales was sworn in for his second term as president Friday.
