La Paz, Feb 21 (Prensa Latina) The Bolivian mining industry”s development plan 2020-2017 envisions a 500 million dollar investment in another two zinc plants, Cambio state daily reported on Sunday.

The new plants, located in Oruro and Potosi, are expected to produce 200 tones of zinc yearly. The government sees these projects as the basis to bring Bolivia’s mining into the industrial age, added the newspaper.

The Bolivian Mining Corporation (Comibol) will bid for building both plants, which will begin producing in 2013.

Zinc is the main ore that Bolivia produces, followed by tin and silver.

The country’s Zinc exports have risen from 385 tones in 2008 to 429 tones last year, which represented 685 million dollar profit.

However, this figure was a 7 percent lower than exports’ figure in 2008, when they were 738 million dollar, due to the fall in the prices in international market.
