Bolivia Reaches 9 millions Eye Surgeries

Santa Cruz, Mar 19 (Prensa Latina) The Bolivian President Evo Morales will head a peoples’ rally Friday to celebrate the 500,000 eye surgeries carried in the nation as part of the Free Eye Surgery Program. The solidarity mission backed by Cuba, puts the South American nation in the vanguard of this type of free attention as rule for people with limitted resources.

The Caribbean nation doctor Odalys Rodriguez, leading the Operation Miracle in Bolivia explained to Prensa Latina that this collaboration benefit not only Bolivians but also thousands Peruvian, Brazilian, Paraguayan amd Argentinian citizens that received attention in the borders.

So far about 15 ofthalmological facilities and 20 surgery positions are the epicenter of that unconditional solidarity of the Greater Antilles with the Andean country.

Rodriguez talked about the fact of choosing Santa Cruz city as the venue for the central activity in celebration of the achievement because of the results of this center of assistance that has been installed there.

The Operation Miracle began in Bolivia by the end of 2005 by sending about 150 patients with visual deficiencies to Habana.

At this moment those members of the medical brigade but also those joining the cooperation in education and social workers are working together investigating catarats and pterigium (proud flesh) in communities and during comprehensive health fairs to detect those anomalies in very poor settlers.
