Bolivian President Announces Anti Corruption Law

La Paz, March 31 (Prensa Latina) Bolivian President Evo Morales proclaimed the Marcelo Quiroga Anti Corruption Law on Wednesday, passed by the Chamber of Senators two days ago.

Some changes were made to the important legislation at the Chamber of Deputies, chiefly in the extension of sentences that come under by the law.

The legislation will be applied retroactively and imprescriptibly to crimes in the management of the public resources, and does not recognize privilege at the time of trying corruption crimes and illegal enrichment of former and current authorities.

The Executive was committed to try ex corrupted authorities after the promulgation of the legislation, such as ex Cochabambas governor Manfred Reyes, who is on the run at the US, ex president Jorge Quiroga (2001-2002), who are accused of embezzlement of funds.

The measure establishes procedures to prevent, investigate, try, sanction, and recover the State resources, despite the opposition rejected to include in the legislation trying someone in his/her absence.
