Transparency at Bolivian Regional Elections

La Paz, Apr 6 (Prensa Latina) About 123 observers from 11 countries highlighted in this capital transparency of the departmental and municipal elections held in Bolivia on April 4, Cambio newspaper reported on Tuesday.

  According to the daily, experts, among them those of the Electoral Observation Mission of the Organization of American States (EOM/OAS), shared the democratic maturity.

Representatives from the United Nations and the Union of Electoral Organizations were part of the most numerous delegations to attend these polls.

All international entities agreed to congratulate the Bolivian people, electoral authorities, and politicians to foster elections at a peace atmosphere.

Observers also termed positive the implementation of the biometric electoral roll, including fingerprints, photos and signatures of voters.

Preliminary results stated that the governing Movement towards Socialism won in six of nine regions (La Paz, Oruro, Cochabamba, Potosi, Chuquisaca and Pando) and the defeat in Santa Cruz and Beni.

The MAS also won three of 10 major’s offices in key cities, as Cochabamba, Cobija and El Alto.
