Bolivia Prosecutor Warns Military about Legal Actions

16La Paz, Jun 5 (Prensa Latina) Prosecutor Milton Mendoza warned the Bolivian Armed Forces that legal actions would be taken if the military refuses to produce classified information about the Luis Garcia Meza dictatorship (1980-1981).

Mendoza pointed out that all pertinent recourses were fulfilled and the Superior Court of Justice ruled in favor of the Prosecutor’s Office regarding the obstacles placed by the military hierarchy.

If the classified documents are not produced, the military would commit a crime and legal actions would be taken, Mendoza pointed out.

The prosecutor asked Minister of Defense Ruben Saavedra to demand that the Armed Forces provide the exact location of the military records to know the whereabouts of people abducted under the bloody Garcia Meza dictatorship.

The main objective of the investigation is to find out where the bodies of several political and trade union leaders, including Marcelo Quiroga Santa Cruz, Renato Ticona and Juan Carlos Flores, were buried.
