Evo Morales Visit to S. Africa Extolled

07La Paz, Jun 15 (Prensa Latina) The spokesman of Bolivia”s government Ivan Canelas said on Monday that Evo Morales attendance to the World Cup South Africa 2010 opening ceremony allowed to eliminate FIFA high-altitude soccer ban.

  In a press release at Palace Quemado, Bolivian Palace of Government Canelas said that Morales met executives of several soccer federations and ratified Bolivia’s stance for matches 2,500m (8,200ft) above sea level.

He stated that the official decision of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) of eliminating high-altitude ban was a goal scored by Bolivia at the beginning of the World Cup on Jun 11.

CAnelas confirmed that the own FIFA President Sweden Joseph Blatter officially announced that the veto (of high-altitude venues) is over. Blatter said that in view of the qualifying competitions for Brazil 2014 Bolivians can keep calm because there won’t be problem in having matches in La Paz, Oruro, Potosí, Cochabamba, Sucre and Tarija.

Canelas said that Morales was received by South African President Kgalema Motlanthe.

He also announced that a state mission headed by Foreign Minister will travel to South Africa on July to strengthen bilateral ties.
